About the Mystical Free Music of Positively Dark
What kind of music does Positively Dark compose?
Peter: The music of Positively Dark can best be described as electronica. However, the music of Positively Dark contains many styles including classical, jazz, techno, new age, ambient, dance, and rock.
Who are the members of the band?
Peter: Positively Dark consists of one music composer, me, Peter Geisheker. However, my good friend and brilliant guitar player, Dino Pacifici, plays guitar on several of my tracks.
Where did the name Positively Dark come from?
Peter: I was talking with a friend and she described something as being “positively dark.” I thought that was such an interesting description that I adopted it as my band name as I think it describes the music I compose quite well. My music at times can be dark and melancholic, but at the same time it can be very positive. So, I consider my music to be positively dark.
What are the band’s main music influences?
Peter: My main influence would have to be Vangelis. As a kid growing up I listened to Vangelis’ music from the soundtrack of “Chariots of Fire” about a billion times and was amazed at what could be done with synthesizers. So, I bought a cheap little synthesizer (a Yamaha DX21) and basically learned how to compose music by listening to how Vangelis arranged his music and what types of sounds he used.
Other huge influences include Tangerine Dream, Jean Michael Jarre, Enigma, Mike Oldfield, Deep Forest, Pink Floyd and NIN.
Are there any other influences apart from music that appear in your work or just to your inspiring process?
Peter: My influences tend to be my moods. It is very easy for me to listen to one of my songs and know what mood I was in when I wrote it. Other influences are feelings that I receive from watching movies. I composed the song “Goodnight” after seeing the scene in the movie “Artificial Intelligence” when the child/robot is stuck underwater staring at the Blue Fairy. The scene struck me as being so horribly sad yet beautiful at the same time. Immediately I heard the music for my song “Goodnight” and I went into my home studio to write the song.
