I’m going to a golf tournament at a high end country club in the Palm Springs, California area. I expect the weather to be about 110 degrees. Yikes!
I want to be comfortable, but also look polished. Would it be taboo to wear a casual skirt or dress?
Thanks for the advice… .I’ve never even set foot on a golf course before this!

Custom Golf Clubs Improve Your Game

Do you love to play golf but are tired of having to visit the golf club repair shop on a regular basis? If this is the case then you are like many other golfers out there who have to deal with golf club repair on a regular basis just to enjoy the game you love so much. But, what if there was an option for you to avoid frequent trips to the golf club repair shop? What if you could finally play a round of golf with a set of golf clubs that really fit your size and swing without worrying about golf club repair? Well, you can and the way you can is with a set of custom golf clubs. Custom golf clubs may seem like a major expense up front, but if you sit down and consider the price of your current set of clubs in addition to all the golf club repair bills then you will see that when you do the math a custom golf club set really is not that expensive. And, the benefits of having custom golf clubs is that you will play better golf than ever and will enjoy the game even more. But, what are the benefits of custom golf clubs and why should you choose custom golf clubs over others? The following information will guide you to all the benefits and information you need to know about custom golf clubs. All About Custom Golf Clubs

Just to make a point about custom golf clubs take a look around you the next time you are out on the golf course. Is everyone the same height, weight, sex, and age or are there major differences in appearance? Now, check out everyone’s golf clubs. Are all of the clubs practically the same with standard grips, lengths, and the like? So, what does this observation mean? It means that standard golf clubs don’t fit the majority of golfers. So if you truly want to improve your game you will customize a set of custom golf clubs, just for you. Now, you are probably thinking that custom golf clubs are even more expensive than name brand golf clubs. However, that is not necessarily the case. Not to mention that the fitted custom golf clubs you hear about aren’t anything at all like custom golf clubs, they are made from scratch just for you. Don’t get confused between fitted custom clubs and custom golf clubs. The fitted custom golf clubs simply start out with the standard set of clubs from any golf manufacturer and then they proceed to make the clubs more suitable to your personal and playing traits. Although the custom fitting doesn’t do too much other than cost you money because they are starting with a product that doesn’t fit you to begin with!

Why would anyone anticipate that mass produced clubs would help them play golf at their best? The reason is because golfers want to be better and they believe the hype from the golf manufacturers that the “newest” technology will improve their game. Well, the real answer is not in buying mass produced clubs but rather customizing your own golf clubs. Anyone who has ever had a set of custom golf clubs can tell you that finally having a set of clubs that are the right length, with the right grip, will greatly impact what you shoot the next time you are out on the golf course.

It is simply logical to buy custom golf clubs that are made to fit you or customize your own set of golf clubs. That means your golf swing is analyzed as well as your personal characteristics to create a custom golf club set that works with your golf style and not against it. A custom golf club set will allow you to have grips that are the right size for your hands, heads that reflect your skill, and shafts that are the right length and flex.

When you have your first custom golf club set made you may see some big differences from your last set of clubs. Your custom golf clubs may be a different length or the grip may be smaller or bigger. The flex may be different and the head might be different as well. For some people who set out to play with their custom golf clubs the first day they see amazing results. Others will need to make some changes and practice because although the custom golf clubs really fit their personal characteristics it’s difficult to change after playing with clubs that don’t fit for so long. Just a little practice and patience is all that is needed to see the difference custom golf clubs provide. Not to mention that when you have a custom golf club set made you will have new clubs that won’t be in need of golf club repair any time soon! If you really love golf then a custom golf club set is really worth the investment.

Golf And Golfing For Beginners – Your Basic Golfing Bag

Now that you “have taken up” the social sport of golf you may well have a couple of questions. Golf and golf is a most terrific social sport. You get to while away hours, conferring with the golf greens as well as your friends on the golf course. It’s a wonderful, relaxing pastime. As well many of business’s “big deals” and business contacts can well be made golfing and on the golf course as well in the golf course clubhouse.
Now that you have decided to enroll in the pastime of golf what indeed are the basics of golf?
To begin with w standard set of golf and golfing clubs includes three “woods” golf clubs. These three woods or “drivers” comprise the “driver”, “three-wood” and “five-wood”. Next in line, in the description of standard golf clubs are the “irons”. The groups of the “irons” group of golf clubs generally are composed of the three-iron, five-iron, six-iron, seven-iron, eight-iron, nine-iron, pitching wedge and finally the all famous golf club, with which to make your final shot into the golf cup on the golf green.
According the strict rules of golf you cannot carry more than fourteen clubs in your personal golf bag. This is a very strict and enforced rule of the game and sport of golf. You cannot carry more than the maximum allotted number of fourteen golf clubs in your golf bag – even if you never ever use those extra clubs. It can be said that often more experienced and advanced golf players mix and match here and there with extra , non of the mill , non standard golf clubs , for example a one-iron or a seven wood. However in these cases the sum total maximum of the golf clubs in their bag adds up to 14 golf clubs. As a newcomer or beginner golf player it is always best to start your golf career with the standard , simple array of golf clubs that are used by most golfers. Why make life, and your golf career, complex for yourself, unnecessarily.
The woods have the longest shafts of any golf club in your bag. The golf wood clubs are designed to simply hit the golf ball either from a small wooden peg, called the tee, which elevates the ball slightly. You can only use a “tee” in the tee-box at the start of a golf hole. Next you can hit the golf on a flat surface of the golf course, like the fairway. The “wood” golf clubs are made and designed to hit the ball a long, long way. Accuracy of the hit of the golf ball is less of an issue here. Woods obtained their name as they used to be made of persimmon wood itself. While some of these clubs are still made the old way, out of actual persimmon wood, most now are made out of metal – generally steel or better yet titanium. Some golfing fanatics will tell you that the permission based woods gives these golfers “more control” on the golf course. Again as a beginner golfer why complicate your life unnecessarily. Start with standard metal woods. In addition maintenance and care of these clubs is easier.
Like woods the irons are mismatched. These groups of golf clubs are not made out of iron but mostly of steel, titanium and with higher end iron utilizing high tech graphite materials in their structures as well. Irons with the smallest numbers, like the three-iron or the four-iron, have the longest shafts and are designed to hit the golf ball lower and further, and like the woods, with less accuracy. Shafts get shorter as the numbers printed on the sole get bigger and larger, until you get to the “Sand Wedge”. The sand wedge is the shortest club in the golf bag. The standard sand wedge has a 34 inch shaft, which is eight inches shorter than a standard driver shaft. The shortest clubs, like the nine irons, pitching wedge, and sand wedge are designed for accuracy, not distance. An optimum shot with a pitching wedge flies high in the air and lands softly, without much roll. That way you can aim right at the hole. Indeed golf professionals often call their wedges “money clubs” since these pro golfers cannot win the high end golf tournaments unless they can hit the ball so close to the hole that they are in with only a very few putts.
Lastly you will find that because these shafts are so much shorter and are designed to get your golf ball into the air, you will find that you will generally have your most success as a new and budding golf aficionado with your nine-iron and pitching wedge. These are very good clubs to practice when you are first starting out. You will soon discover what a great golf shot is supposed to feel and look like. Keep practicing with these two clubs because when you finally make it onto the golf course, these will be the clubs that will save you many a golf shot and lower your golf score.

A Brief History of Golfing

One of the most elegant and prolific games of this century, golf has a fascinating trail of history running behind. The word ”golf” is actually a modification of the Dutch word “kolf” which simply means a “bat,” “stick,” or “club”. If defined literally, the game is all about striking a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes while complying with the rules of the game. It is one of those rare games which do not require playing area; rather golf is played on golf “courses.” The competitions of golf are based on stroke play, where the individual or team posts with lowest score on the most individual for a full round, wins the game. Some other team games of golf such as fourball have been pioneered, and are played either using matchplay format or stroke. Several alternative styles of golf playing have been introduced like disc golf and miniature golf. However, it is still interesting to find out the History of golf.

Most scholars agree with the “fact” that the Scots were first to popularize the game of golf. However, there exists no common consensus in the history of golf about the inventors of the classy sport. The records suggest a golf-like game was played in a city called Loenen aan de Vecht, Netherlands, on 26 February 1297. The Dutchmen played this game with leather ball and a stick. Actually, the game required the players to hit the ball into a target situated several hundreds of meters away.

The emphasis on golf’s Scottish origin is contributed to the fact that the game was mentioned in two 15th-century Acts of the Scottish Parliament. Further, there are evidences that in A.D 1456, the first game of golf was played at Bruntsfield Links, in Edinburgh, Scotland, as recorded in the archives of The Royal Burgess Golfing Society.

There are some reports which record evidences of golf from continental Europe. Different forms of sports similar to golf were played in 14th century in the countries of France, Belgium, and Holland, apart from Scotland. However, the game was introduced in England by a keen Scottish Baron, James VI, after succeeding on the English throne in 1603.

In the early years of golf, the players never thought of forming a club or society until in 1744 a group of Edinburgh golfers united into a club named Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. It was here that the first 13 rules of golf were drawn up for an annual contest. In 1766, Royal Blackheath Golf Club was formed in England – the first golf club formed outside Scotland.

Although traces of golf can be encountered in 18th century United States, however the game was still waiting to be popularized. The history of golf in North America began with its roots in Canada. In 1873, The Royal Montreal Club was formed, which was followed by the Quebec Golf Club in 1875 and the golf club in Toronto a year later. It was in 1888 that golf re-emerged in the United States. For the first time the “three-hole golf course” was built in Yonkers, New York by a Scotsman, John Reid on a 30-acre site. From a modest beginning, golf emerged as the new national pastime in the United States.

In the recent times golf has become a complete spectators’ game, involving professionals at different levels and amateur tours across various terrains of the world. Not only the game, but the golf players -Tiger Woods, Annika Sorenstam and Jack Nicklaus to name a few, have gained worldwide recognition as great sports personalities. Engrossingly huge sponsorships and new technologies being developed to assist golfers and dedication and raw talent from the emerging players all suggest a luminous new chapter in the “history of golf”.
