I subscribe to Everyday Food and use the recipes constantly. I’ve never made an Everyday Food recipe that wasn’t really good. I went ahead and bought the cookbook because it was a really good price, even though they’ve all been in the magazine. Some cooks might think that the recipes are fancy or complicated by looking at the titles or photographs, but they’re really easy, and use easy-to-find ingredients, even in a small town. I also like the fact that the recipes never call for processed ingredients, like cream of mushroom soup, etc. Also, some of the recipes venture out from typical family fare, and many might say that their families won’t eat the food. My philosophy is that if your family is hungry, they will eat what you provide, unless you want to be a short-order cook every night. This book is arranged differently than the first book. Where the first one was arranged by season (which I happen to really like), this one is arranged by meals and courses. Also, in regard to a previous low-rated review because of the binding, mine arrived in fine shape.

The recipes in this cookbook are very good. But because I am a subscriber of the magazine (which is excellent, by the way), this book is nothing more than a compilation of recipes from the magazine. If you don’t subscribe, it’s a great cookbook. If you do subscribe, all of the recipes will be very familiar, and you will spend double the money on the same thing.

  3. While this book has its strong points, I was disappointed. The book consists of quick cooking, easy to make meals which are made from scratch. The novice could easily learn to make a full range of typical home meals, even enough to earn a reputation as a good cook. Where the book falls short is in providing anything unusual or inspiring. In fact, some of the recipes are more menu suggestions than recipes. For example, a recipe for roasted vegetables consisted of: cut up the vegetables, toss with oil, and bake. A better resource for the novice and experienced cook alike is Cooking Light Fresh Food Fast: Over 280 Incredibly Flavorful 5-Ingredient 15-Minute Recipes. It’s recipes are fresh, made from scratch, but a little different, inspiring and delicious besides being quick and easy. I expected more from a Martha Stewart product.

I’m a long time subscriber of the Everyday Food magazine and I love this new collection of recipes. This book is the followup to Everyday Food ‘Good Food Fast’. I really think this book should be apart of everyones homes.

Another really great book from Martha! I have and love the other Everyday Food book Great Food Fast, but this one is a notch up in my opinion because it is organized differently. Fresh Flavor Fast (this new one) is organized by type of dish – salads, soups, main dishes, etc., while the Great Food Fast (the first one) is organized by the season.

So far, I have tried a number of recipes, and my favorite at this point is the chipotle pork pozole (pg. 105). I could eat it everyday!!!

If you like fairly simple cooking, a wide variety of cuisines to draw from, and a hundreds of recipes to mix and match, this is a great book for you!
