How do I take content from my DirecTV DVR and put it on my computer?

I have the standard direct tv dvr and I want to take the shows I have recorded and transfer them to my computer with the intent of eventually putting them on dvd’s. Everyone I’ve asked seems to think this is possible but nobody knows how to do it. Thanks for your help.

Ever asked yourself, “Where am I?” If so, you’ll never have to ask again with the Garmin 780 for Christmas this year.

as of a few months ago when i looked into it you cant… the problem is Dishnetwork (in my case same as directv) apparently use linux and format the Hard drive and thats the system the dvr uses… so when you try to put it on an external hard drive, first you have to have them format the hardrive for you which they can do over the phone as long as you have it hooked up to your dvr… the problem is then when taking it to your computer it cant read it anyway… there mail be patches out now on the internet that may decode it but id have to look into it some more…

There is no way to do what you want and Directv would not support or allow it because of licensing issues anyway.

you cant transfer the files but you can replay the shows with the r/f output of the receiver connected to a tv tuner card. Using windows media center to either replay on the pc or burn to a disc
