In California, do golf carts have to have license plates to be driven on the streets?

I’m thinking about getting a golf cart sometime, and I was wondering what was required for it to be legal to be driven on the street? Does it need a license plate? A set of laws/requirements would be greatly appreciated.

    In CA, all motorized vehicles must be licensed when driven on public streets and roads.
