I had purchased this book for myself but will be giving it to my niece who has moved into her first apartment. This is a very broad and encompassing collection of classic comfort food recipes … some utilizing prepared ingrediants such as refridgerator biscuits, cans of cream of chicken or mushroom soup and one even a prepared pecan pie.
Being a “from scratch” cook it is not as appealing because of how basic some of the recipes are. But for someone wanting a good collection of the basic comfort food recipes or someone just starting out on the road to cooking this would be a wonderful addition to their cokbook collection.

I have only used one of the recipes so far, it was just as described. I plan to use others during the holiday season. I really loved the articles decribing times in the past. the book is just what I expected it to be “WONDERFUL.”The name absolutely describes the book.

We already own many of the Southern Living cook books and 8 years worth of the Christmas cook books as well. This book is a compilation of the recipes already featured in our other SL cookbooks. I guess I was expecting something else, but wasn’t surprised. My husband has claimed this one as his own, because it keep him from having to pour through dozens of SL cook books looking for one of his favorite recipes, which undoubtably is in this new book.

Absolutely wonderful book. It combines the Southern Living way of cooking with the old-fashioned way of cooking. The only thing that I would want more of are the stories (i.e., memories) about the past.
