So we already have diretv and now my mom decided to let me have cable in my room…I know it’s like an extra $5 a month or something for cable? So, I also want a DVR. How much would that cost to get it installed along with the cable for my room?

Thanks :]
We already have Directv in another room so ya…we’re just adding another room to our plan.

I placed the order for a Directv DVR yesterday, for self-installation, but I didn’t see a delivery date on the confirmation email. Does it generally take a couple of days or weeks? Sorry, I ask a lot of questions about this. It’s hard to navigate the website.

Can I use a splitter for the second coaxial input for a DirecTV DVR receiver?

Our dish only has two connectors, and both are already in use -one going to the living room and one to the bedroom. We upgraded to a DVR thinking we could just switch out the cables from the old box to the new box, but then discovered the new box required two lines from the satellite dish. Can we use a splitter for the line into the living room, or do we have to give up the receiver in the bedroom, which is not desirable for us?

Comparison: Dish Network VS Directv

DISH Network has the best programming, technology and service, all for less.

DIRECTV Sub Growth Dropping Like a Rock and was predicted  because of its increasingly poor customer service and its apparent unwillingness to expand its high-def lineup.

The Washington State Attorney General had more complaints about DIRECTV than any other company in America this year and has said “that DIRECTV has built deception into their business model and that DIRECTV has left few deceptive tactics unused.”

DIRECTV: Still Lying About HDTV.  An independent review finds that DIRECTV’s HD channel count is far from the truth.

DISH Network has more HD than DIRECTV: DISH Network leads the satellite industry with the most HD channels nationwide.

DIRECTV is not Accredited with the Better Business Bureau!

The BBB gave DIRECTV an “F” rating, which means that the BBB “strongly question the company’s reliability for reasons such as that they have failed to respond to complaints, their advertising is grossly misleading, they are not in compliance with the law’s licensing or registration requirements, their complaints contain especially serious allegations, or the company’s industry is known for its fraudulent business practices.

More than 36,000 BBB Complaints were filed against DIRECTV in the past-36 months.

TrustLink (the consumer review BBB program) gave DIRECTV a 1-star rating out of 5 stars.  The facts are clear, DIRECTV’s customer service doesn’t cut it.

Here are some other major differences:

Directv prices will double after first year

Dishnetwork has the Lowest everyday price

“The Dish Network ViP 622 and 722 are among the most fully featured and versatile high-def DVRs you can buy today.”

   CNET DIRECTV HR20 Review

“The DirecTV HR20 is easy to use and offers plenty of features, but its operational bugs make use more of a headache than with other DVRs.”

And because we have a commitment to low cost, we make our state-of-the-art receiver available with a FREE receiver upgrade.

$6.00 /mo DVR Service fee applies

Unlike DIRECTV, we offer FREE upgrades to multi-room HD equipment connectivity: right now, you can get state-of-the-art HD receivers on up to 3 TVs with no upfront equipment cost. Compare prices for DirecTV HR23 hd dvr receiver – reviews

Looks great, 2009 has already been a busy year for DirecTV, yet it and dvr families keep growing at an allegedly non-stop pace. many of DBSTalk’s Cutting Edge members were extended a break by DirecTV to field test the most recent member of the HR family – the DirecTV HR23. Externally theDirecTV HR23 keeps the now familiar styling of its forebears, but that’s where the likeness ends. The DirecTV HR23 includes enhancements without delay supporting continuing hardware initiatives like the SWM ODUs, At the same time, recording capacity has been increased to take virtue the contemporary HD enlargement. This displaces one part that might lead to a critical failure.

Specials and bonuses: DirecTV HR23

After the DVR boots up, you must spot the picture is a little clearer. The guide and menus are laid out the same as other DirecTV DVRs. The sound output by the DirecTV HR23 obviously has gotten a bit louder and potentially clearer.
After setting up your ‘Series Links” and recording your fave shows, you will begin to notice that your playlist will have a higher share of space available. This is because of the inclusion of a 500GB drive. My feeling is that it seems like I am able to record twice as many shows/movies as I was on my HR20-700. As far as performance, I have seen different speeds at different times. Almost all of the time the DirecTV HR23 appears to run as fast (if not faster) than my HR20-700. However, there are times where the menu and guide navigation drag a bit. It is a reasonably sure bet that DirecTV will continue to enhance both performance and functionality thru Cutting Edge updates.
In general, the DirecTV HR23 is strongly recommended for anyone looking to add a new DVR. I might also counsel this DVR DirecTV HR23 for anyone that wants to increase their storage in comparison to their DVR. When you compare the expenses of adding an ESATA drive to other lower capacity DVRs and the fact that you lose the storage capacity of your internal drive, the DirecTV HR23 is a good inexpensive option.
Not even two full months after DirecTV’s HR22 started filtering out to avid users, in flies a first look at the forthcoming DirecTV HR23. But do not fret — there aren’t too many here. It looks as if the HDD of the HD DVR is similar size as that in the HR22, with the major changes being a few cosmetic tweaks and internal swaps that would amount to better video quality. It looks like there is no OTA tuner, and it will be sporting the same wide band tuners as in the H23. The improvements are:
The tuners are BBC / SWM switching, meaning that the BBC (small converter box hooked to the satellite input) is not required. The receiver detects if the conversion is required, or if the users have an SWM switch mechanically. This same technology was latterly added to the H23 non-dvr receiver. Leading to virtually double the storage ( because 50gb is reserved for D* recordings (ppv/showcases) on either drive).

Looks superb, 2009 has been a busy year for DirecTV, yet it and dvr families continue to grow at an allegedly non-stop pace. many of DBSTalk’s Cutting Edge members were extended a break by DirecTV to field test the most recent member of the HR family – the DirecTV HR23. Outwardly theDirecTV HR23 keeps the now familiar styling of its predecessors, but that is where the likeness ends. The DirecTV HR23 includes enhancements directly supporting ongoing hardware initiatives like the SWM ODUs, At the same time, recording capacity has been increased to take virtue the contemporary HD enlargement. The first conspicuous differences between DirecTV HR23 and other HD-DVR receivers is the facility to receive all the Hi-D channels without B-Band converters. Your satellite wires can be plugged straight into the satellite inputs on the back of the DirecTV HR23. This eliminates one part that would lead to a critical failure.

Specials and bonuses: DirecTV HR23

Once you power on your DirecTV HR23, you need to spot the boot time is a tiny quicker than other DVRs. The menus, guides and the programming of DirecTV HR23 appear a little sharper than other DVRs. The guide and menus are laid out the same as other DirecTV DVRs. This is thanks to the inclusion of a 500GB drive. My opinion is that it sort of feels like I am able to record twice as many shows/movies as I was on my HR20-700. With the last HD channels that were broadcast with MPEG2 compression now being broadcast with MPEG4 compression, this shall make allowance for an additional incremental increase in the programs that can be recorded ( presuming you record the previous MPEG2 channels).
Most of the time the DirecTV HR23 seems to run as quick ( if not quicker ) than my HR20-700. However, there are times where the menu and guide navigation drag a bit. It is a reasonably sure bet that DirecTV will continue to reinforce both performance and functionality through Cutting Edge updates.
In general, the DirecTV HR23 is strongly recommended for anybody looking to add a new DVR. I might also advocate this DVR DirecTV HR23 for anyone that wants to extend their storage in comparison to their current DVR. When you compare the expenses of adding an ESATA drive to other lower capacity DVRs and the fact that you lose the storage capacity of your internal drive, the DirecTV HR23 is great inexpensive option.
