When you think of the word iPod, you automatically think music. But the fact is that the iPod can do more than just let you hear music. iPod can be used to view videos and store pictures. In fact some iPods can store up to 7,500 songs, 25,000 photos and 1,000 videos.

When we wonder what guitar tab we need to get to begin to make up our repertoire, we usually think only about songs we like. We know that our choice in music does not suck in the slightest but if we are going to be playing our guitar and singing for audiences we need to get used to the idea that our taste in music will not match what our listeners want to hear. We may even take a look at popular choices in songs and get the uncomfortable feeling that we might have to play songs that we do not like. One thing guitar players are famous for is standing on their principles and not compromising on what they are going to play. The other thing they are famous for is giving the audience what they want. Take Your Favorite Music on the Road With Ipod Car Adapters

Recently, the iPod has become the most popular portable music player on the planet.  The biggest problem with this is that  they can’t be used in your car, where people tend to listen to music the most.  Unless, of course, you purchase an iPod car adapter.  These devices make it extremely easy to bring enjoyment to the road.

For even better reception, finding an FM frequency that is unused and has empty signals on both sides is even better.  If that isn’t possible, try to find one that has the weakest signal interference on both sides.  For example, if the station 98.5 is unused, check to see if 98.4 and 98.6 are also empty.  This is the perfect solution for the clearest sound quality.

In big cities, finding an unused FM frequency is getting more and more difficult, if not altogether impossible.  In this scenario, it is probably best to use a cassette adapter or built-in jack.  No matter which iPod car adapter you end up using, you will love cruising around, windows down and a breeze blowing through your hair, your favorite music playing in the background!

Bonnaroo Music Festival Tickets – Don’t Miss Out on the 4-Day Package

The biggest music festival in the country is going to be taking place this summer in Manchester, Tenn. With headliners including some of the biggest mainstream stars anywhere and a host of indie-rock bands from across the nation, it’s hard to turn down the opportunity to get tickets to the 2010 Bonnaroo Music Festival. But if you’re going to go, consider going for the whole event. That’s right: the 4-day package, which lets visitors stay through an entire weekend, taking in a smorgasbord of music, comedy and more.

The big attractions at Bonnaroo every year are the headliners. There are big names topping every night, with Dave Matthews Band and the Kings of Leon being sure-fire draws for the college crowd. Hip-hop fans will be tuning in to see Jay-Z, while fans of classic R&B will check out Stevie Wonder. And for those with a taste for the trippy, the Flaming Lips will be there with their wildly visual stage show—though this year, they’re playing Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety, which is sure to be a special experience for Floyd fans.

On top of those major artists, there are a host of smaller indie-rock artists that you’re not going to want to miss out on. Garage rockers the Dead Weather, which is fronted by Jack White, will be a big draw, as will Phoenix, the French band that drew so much attention in 2009 with “1901.” Electro-disco artist James Murphy, known for working under the name of LCD Soundsystem, will also be making a splash with tracks from his new album, This is Happening. Likewise, indie-rockers the National will be performing new music from their record High Violet.

There’s a range of even smaller upstarts that are climbing the ranks and will be drawing the spotlight at Bonnaroo this year, ranging from the U.K.’s dream-pop outfit the xx to metal rockers Baroness. Two of the bands that have earned the buzz of the blogosphere are Japandroids, a punky indie-rock outfit, and Neon Indian, a drowsy, dreamy synth-rock band. Both of them are going to be considered must-see acts this year, even though they are considerably smaller in stature than a lot of the other, more well-known bands.

And aside from all the music, there will be plenty of comedy to enjoy, too. That’s one of the standout attractions of the Bonnaroo Music Festival, and each year a host of awesome stand-up comics can be found on the stages here. This year’s surprise, of course, will be Conan O’Brien, recently released from his contract with NBC and forbidden to be funny on television. As a result, Conan is hitting the road, and he happens to be stopping at a lot of music festivals this summer as well. Other comics include well-known funny woman Margaret Cho and Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari.

Tinnitus Relief For Music Lovers

Whether you are a music lover or a professional musician, if you have tinnitus you should know that music can be your ears’ worst enemy. Over 50 million people on the US have tinnitus, or ringing of the ears. And the number one cause of tinnitus is exposure to loud sounds. And unfortunately, if not somewhat unfairly, music is one of the main ways most of us expose ourselves to overly loud noise. The good news is this is largely under your control

It’s easy to listen to music too loud. Often we are trying to listen to music loud enough to drown other other noise. I’m always amazed when I get in my car, how loud I left the radio from my last drive. Almost all live entertainment is too loud whether it is classical, jazz, or rock.

If you are a professional musician looking for tinnitus relief, you’re in good company. After performing at the 2010 Super Bowl halftime show, rock legend Pete Townsend of the Who revealed to Rolling Stone magazine that his tinnitus returned. He might have to give up live performing. Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has discussed his tinnitus and his concerns for this generation growing up with iPods on CNN. Some other notable performers that acknowledge they have tinnitus include Neil Young, Barbra Streisand, Sting, and Eric Clapton.

There are many references to ringing ears in songs lyrics, including songs by U2, Wilco, Mark Knopfler, Nine Inch Nails, Bob Dylan, and Beck. Who could forget the famous Peter Frampton line, “I wonder how you’re feeling….there’s ringing in my ears.” I’m sure you can think of some others.

So what can music lovers do to prevent getting tinnitus or to stop tinnitus from getting any worse?

This may seem embarrassingly obvious, but when you have control of the sound level, such as the radio in your car or your iPod, keep the volume as a safe level. What is considered a safe level? That would be so quiet that if someone wanted to talk to you they wouldn’t have to raise their voice. That’s pretty quiet. It is interesting to check out decibel levels of common sounds on sites such as CoolMath.com. You’ll find learn that listening to music in your home usually is as loud as the average factory.

When you can’t control the sound level, such as at at concert, use hearing protection. You can buy special musicians’ earplugs.

If you’re a drummer, you can get quiet drumsticks, which sounds like an oxymoron! Eric Clapton made them famous during his unplugged era. I’ve heard that their tinnitus is why some musicians decided to go “unplugged” in the first place.

And if you already have tinnitus, besides reducing sound levels you are exposed to, there are many tinnitus remedies that can reduce or even eliminate tinnitus symptoms, even though there is no actual tinnitus cure.

Getting High on Music — Song Lyrics About Drugs

Drugs were a part of music culture long before rock and roll was even an embryo.  But as that embryo began growing up and experimenting with drugs, it began writing music and lyrics about them, and became closely associated with them in the public’s mind.  Sex, drugs and rock and roll—weren’t they what a musician’s life was all about?  Some rockers didn’t mince words when they wrote about drugs, while others left their lyrics open to interpretation.  Here’s a sampling of songs with lyrics describing the seductive—and destructive—power of drugs:

“Cocaine” by Eric Clapton

An obvious lyric, right?  Not quite.  Originally written and recorded by J.J. Cale in 1975, the song was hugely popularized by Eric Clapton’s cover version.  But Clapton stresses that the lyrics, “If you wanna get down, down on the ground,” are very anti-cocaine and describe its ravages.  To emphasize that point, Clapton later added the lyrics, “that dirty cocaine,” during his concerts.

“White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane

This song’s music sounds trippy.  Its lyrics sound trippy.  Its vocals sound trippy.  And for a good reason:  it’s about LSD.  A Jefferson Airplane classic, its psychedelic lyrics and music were written by singer Grace Slick.  The song equates an acid trip to the hallucinatory imagery of author Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass.”  When Slick sings the lyrics, “Feed your head,” she’s not exactly encouraging listeners to go to the library.

“Dancing on Glass” by Motley Crue

When it comes to drugs, Motley Crue—particularly bassist and recovering heroin addict, Nikki Sixx—aren’t shy about writing lyrics about them, or admitting they used them.  Sixx’s lyrics, “Valentine’s in London, found me in the trash,” refer to an incident in which he immediately OD’d after allowing a seedy London drug dealer to shoot him up.  The panicked dealer thought Sixx was dead, and threw him into a dumpster.  Sixx miraculously revived on Valentine’s Day, surrounded by trash.  Not exactly the same as receiving flowers and candy.

“Mr. Brownstone” by Guns N’ Roses

Guns N’ Roses is another band whose members used their bodies as chemistry labs, and lived to write lyrics and music about it.  In the song lyrics, “We’ve been dancing with Mr. Brownstone,” “brownstone” is slang for heroin.  According to guitarist Slash, he and co-guitarist Izzy Straddlin came up with the lyrics while they were complaining about being heroin addicts, and scribbled the words on a grocery bag.  He said the lyrics described a typical day in the two guitarists’ lives, at the time.

“The Needle and the Damage Done” by Neil Young

The sorrowfully sung lyrics of this classic made it a renowned anti-heroin song.  The lyrics, “I’ve seen the needle and the damage done…every junkie’s like a settin’ sun,” were about the heroin use of Young’s guitarist, Danny Whitten, who overdosed several months after the song’s release.  Young’s comment about the song lyrics was, “I am not a preacher, but drugs killed a lot of great men.”

Who knows how many amazing unsung songs and lyrics those men still had in them?
