I’ve used TurboTax and TaxCut on and off for years. Last year I switched back to TaxCut due to Intuit’s pricing, but this year they include 5 efiles and unlimited printing, so I’m back. I downloaded 11/26/09, and the download process and installation onto Win7 x64 went very smoothly. The interface is improved over my last try 2 years ago. The interview is very streamlined, and you can use a summary version to avoid the hundreds of questions in the full interview. (are you a priest? Are you a lumberjack? etc). The forms view is also much improved, and easy to navigate for those of you who want to review exactly what is going into each line.
Overall, very highly recommended. Much better pricing this year given all that is included. I only wish state efile was in there.
The 2009 version has returned an unacceptable number of failures since being installed. In one example, the low energy vehicle tax credit function failed to allow addition of my qualified automobile. During my first update, TurboTax locked up requiring a system reboot, software removal, and reinstallation. In another update, TurboTax automatically added software for my state of residence in 2008; I intended to manually download a module for my current state of residence. Tech Service – witless. My confidence in TT is gone, and so is the software. (Addendum: The IRS recently identified a TurboTax-caused [doubling] blunder in my amended 2007 return resulting in a $1500 refund).
