eric clapton is an incredible guitar player, but i have read numerous biographies on him and i don’t think he changed the music world, if you read about him you will read he is a self centered jackass, when he was in cream he would play with his back to the audience because he didnt want the attention, but when the spotlight went off him he went nuts, he fell in love with his best friend (george harrison)’s wife and told her he would do herione if she didnt leave george for him, he has been clean for some time now and might not be an *** anymore, i think if anything he proved that a white boy could play damn good blues
He was pretty essential to the blues revival of the 60s, which helped shape music up through the 70s. When he joined Cream, they based their style around live improvisation. This had rarely been done in mainstream music before, and influenced other bands to follow suit. It was probably a catalyst for the progressive rock movement.
Basically by hooking up with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. Those two fed into Clapton’s obsession with the blue’s better than anyone before or since. The first “super-group” they were magic together.
