Clapton has put out a ton of music through the years…..music that appeals to all different tastes.
Here are some of my CD recommendations that you may wish to further investigate:
    Behind the Sun
    Crossroads ( 4 CDs)
    Crossroads 2 ( 4 CDs)
    461 Ocean Boulevard
    From the Cradle (blues)
    Me and Mr. Johnson (blues)
    Sessions For Robert J. (blues)
    Slowhand
    Time Pieces (the best of…)
    24 Nights (live)
    Unplugged
    Also of some interest:
Riding With the King (with B.B. King)
Delaney & Bonnie & Friends – On Tour With Eric Clapton
Derek & The Dominos – Live At the Fillmore
    Cream- Royal Albert Hall 05
    Blind Faith – Blind Faith
I know you requested songs;but, there are just so many out there and my best of Clapton my not be remotely close to another persons best. Try to check out the CDs and decide what you like.
    Hope this helps.

even though not his own there’s 2 blues songs of which I think they are some of his best work
    check out the following ones
Have you ever loved a woman (originally a Freddy king song) the studio version just wails unbelievably
I ain’t gonna give up on love (originally Stevie Ray vaughn)
the version he performed on the Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute
also some of the stuff he did with Jimmy Paige in his early days is purely brilliant.

Buy the album “Timepieces”. It is the Best of Clapton. It has these songs :
    I shot the Sheriff
    After Midnight
    Cocaine
    Layla
    Lay down Sally
    Let it grow
    Wonderful tonight
    After Midnight
    and a few other.
I like “Willie and the hand jive”. Another good song is “Knocking on heaven’s door”.

As you can see now, you can’t pick his best songs, and you could say something is good if not great in all his music.
In any way to prefer anything Clapton….. for me… I prefer Layla unpluged to the original electric.
    J. J. Cale. is a good artist to check out if you like cocaine(the song)

  8. lorenz says:

    steppin’ out (bbc sessions)
    crossroads (wheels of fire)
while my guitar gently weeps (concert for george)

When he was in Cream, he was at the top of his game. Crossroads, Politician, Sunshine of Your Love. Watch a video of them playing and see Jack Bruce tearing up the bass. Wow!!!!
