I would like to know your opinion about the lyrics of Pink Floyd. Are they good, strange or what? I am from Brazil and here of course we have a point of view about Pink Floyd’ lyrics but I would like to know the point of view from British people about this subject. Thank you very much.

They did make a point of being typically British, unlike many Bands who made the decision to copy everything American.
For example, the line “By the way, which ones Pink?” in “Welcome to the Machine” is a joke, in that the Questioner thinks that the Band got its name in the same way that firms of Solicitors form theirs. He thought that there was a Mr. Pink and a Mr. Floyd. Clever and subtle, as it shows his lack of knowledge about them. This would be difficult to appreciate, if you are not British.

The wall is a doubledisc cd not a song…Pink Floyd is a very unique and special group of four. There instruments make them sound like a fantastic orchestra. Roger Waters wrote lyrics that were some-what political and angry. Mixed with the melody of Pink Floyd makes it unique.
Roger Waters is an amazing songwriter/singer/guitar player. The lyrics on Dark side of the moon really shine his talent.

Pink Floyd’s music is clearly influenced by both Jazz and Insanity. Anybody could tell from listening to The Wall that Roger Waters is truly a tormented man, from the death of his father to the later unfortunate events of his life. It really depends on the album and song, though… Generally, the songs have a deep feeling of insanity, depression, and rebellion.

try this section from animals- pigs (three different ones)[2nd verse opener]
Bus stop rat bag, ha ha charade you are.
You fu**ed up old hag, ha ha charade you are.
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass(ssssssssssss).
    i thought he was saying
Burst of bright band, ha ha ……
    you f’d up ole hag
you radiate cold shafts to broken glass.
if i had to think bout it- reading it sounds like people who mightve f’d him over in the past, but his voice is in a somewhat serenade- kinda like he’s happy to be airin’ them out. that and he’s also callin em pigs of course.

    Do you know this one?
Aye an’ a bit of Mackeral settler rack and ruin
ran it doon by the haim, ‘ma place
well I slapped me and I slapped it doon in the side
    and I cried, cried, cried.
The fear a fallen down taken never back the raize and then Craig Marion,
get out wi’ ye Claymore out mi pocket a’ ran doon, doon the middin stain
picking the fiery horde that was fallen around ma feet.
Never he cried, never shall it ye get me alive
ye rotten hound of the burnie crew. Well I snatched fer the blade O my
Claymore cut and thrust and I fell doon before him round his feet.
Aye! A roar he cried frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall
but as dead, dead as ‘a can be by his feet; de ya ken?
    …and the wind cried Mary.
