What is the best flat screen LCD HD TV to purchase for the money?
My husband and I have decided to finally ditch our big tube and go for a new HD LCD model! But we are clueless as to which brand and the options to look for. What is the best bet on the market right now and what numbers/items should we be looking at? Thanks!
Many people wonder how do i copy a DVD onto my hard drive? Thankfully, now they have the answer to copy their DVD to their hard drive for FREE!

Popular Mechanics said Samsung. They said Vizios suck, so don’t get one. I wuld just stick with a Samsung, sony, Toshiba, or Rca.
Good question.
I would recommend that you get a lcd hdtv with a 1080p resolution and a high contrast ratio of at least 5000:1. Another thing to consider is response time of 8ms or better. This is important if you watch sports with alot of movement.
Sony and Sharp are great choices. If a 32 inch would be large enough for you then I recommend the Sharp lc32d62u. It has a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and 6ms response time. This unit has a good cost performance ratio. If you require a larger picture then the Sony would be a good choice in the 42 inch size. Sharp also has a 37 in with and 8500:1 contrast ratio for about $600 more than the 32 inch version.
Hope that helps some.
If you want the best lcd television for the money…. if your looking to save cash go with a lcd -dlp television. It is the same as a regular flat lcd however the picture is rear projection. You can easiltyfind a 50 inch 1080p dlp-lcd tv that can also be your pc monitor & have a way better picture than the ole 1024×768 lcd pc monitors w/ multiple hdmi connectors, vga, wiselink etc. I got a Samsung 50″ 1080p for the kids room for 800 bucks new. The best is a regular 1080p lcd flat. However be ready to fork out about 3000+ depending on what you get. The TV looks amazing, the kids are more than happy, I saved money. Thats how ya save a buck in the TV market.
I am a TV salesman and while there are TV’s I would buy over others, I wouldn’t say all TV’s suck. Vizio’s actually get really high reviews for the price point so I wouldn’t entirely rule those out if you’re on a budget. It really depends on the size of the TV as well as what you would like to do with it. The higher the quality, the more expensive. Models like Samsung and Panasonic are among some of my personal favorite, and while Sony is also a good brand, you’re generally paying a few hundred more simply for the name. If you’re looking for top of the line, I’d recommend the Samsung lnt4071f which is a 40″ TV (also in 46″ and 52″ sizes) that has the new 120 HZ refresh rate. Check out your local circuit city or best buy and ask to see one, if they have a movie playing you really will be able to see the difference in the smoothness of the picture. Otherwise there are still many great TV’s you can get for under $1000
Don’t give up on tubes…With flat panel TVs emerging nowadays such as plasmas and LCDs, most consumers are highly misinformed and believe that the quality of a flat panel is better than that of a tube (CRT) TV. This is not true at all. The image quality of a plasma or LCD TVsfar inferior to a CRT, such as the Sony KD-34XBR970. Even worse, more and more people are buying these flat panel TVs as a ’status symbol’ and do not understand true picture quality. Why do you think studios use CRT monitors during production and ediing instead of a plasma TV? Most studios want the best, most accurate picture possible, so they use CRT monitors. The quality of the Sony KD-34XBR970is much like a studio monitor, and surpasses all other displays regardless of cost. The dot pitch iso fine and the picture has so much realism to the point where all other displays look dull and muddy in comparison. Convergence and geometry is perfect out of the box, and the set looked fantastic. Its picture had depth and dimension, unlike the flat lok ofmost plasma and LCD TVs. HD channels look amazing they are very real and are not overly enhanced. The Sony’s on-board processing and DRC is perfect and does not make sources look pixelated at all. The picture is fine, clear, and has exceptionaletail. One caveat to remember: The set is shipped in ‘Vivid’ mode, which is meant to grab your attention in the stores with a bright picture but lacking in clarity. It is way too bright and much too sharp. You can see outlines and picture artifacts inthis mode. If you keep the TV in Vivid mode, you are guaranteed to burn the tubes in no time and shorten the life of the TV. Also, the vivid mode is very inaccurate in color reproduction. I have my set calibrated in the ‘Movie’ mode, with a picture (wite level) setting of 20/63 and a brightness (black level) setting of 30/63. Remember, it is very important to lower the ‘picture’ setting because it controls the amount of white light on the screen. If you do this, the tube will last a very long timend you willsee an exceptional image. On the other hand, the ‘brightness’ setting controls the amount of dark areas you see in the picture. Turning this setting up will allow you to see more dark areas in a movie, but will not burn the tubes or impairmage quality. An accurate image is better than a bright one. Finally, the color decoder needs adjustment as it emphasizes red severely and makes people look reddish or tanned. If you change the ‘color axis’ setting from ‘Default’ to ‘Monitor,’ the colrs will be much more accurate and vibrant. If you adjust this set properly and take good care of it, it will produce the best picture of any TV and will last a very long time. (My old XBR TV is 16 years old and still going.) I have a neighbor who spen $10,000 on a plasma TV and the picture quality is far worse than this set. What kind of TV would you buy? Is status symbol more important than image quality? Remember, that after reading this review, you are a much more educated consumer and that meas more power to you!
Well, it seems every year there is a NEW BUZZWORD to look for…..
This year’s buzzword is REFRESH RATE…More /higher refresh rate gives you Focused/Smoother HI SPEED ACTION….your husband would love that with Football, auto racing, basketball etc…
100Hz refresh or 120 Hz refresh rates builds the picture 4 times, compared to 30 Hz (hertz) ONE TIME, and what that does is, it FILLS IN DETAILS completely with fast moving action….
It actually looks like an old Picture Tube TV does when you’re watching a basketball/football game…no blurriness in the background.
SONY is the one to look at….”Motion Flow Technology” is their BUZZWORD…..
Toshiba’s Buzzword is Vyper Drive….
All TVs will expound 100 Hz or 120 Hz refresh rates……and if they don’t, they are last year’s TV models…
But when it really comes down to it, START with a 1080P display for the highest quality picture you can get….then 120 Hz refresh rate, then 4 to 8 millisecond RESPONSE TIME, then NATIVE CONTRAST ratio of 3000: 1 or better…..then DYNAMIC CONTRAST ratio of 10,000 : 1 or better….
But ABOVE ALL…..LOOK at the <> on your choices with your EYES !! Side by side….Your Eyes are the best judges of OVERALL picture quality…..
Then buy what you like the MOST….
