This one all depends on the size of screen you want. 42″ or above is plasma and below that is definitely lcd. Plasma screen burn is a problem that earlier screens suffered from and you would really have to have the same image on the screen 24/7 to do any damage. LCD screens are better technically in terms of longevity as they do not decrease in standard as the tv ages. Plasma screens tend to lose picture quality towards the end of their life but don’t let that put you off as they last as long as a normal CRT set. It all comes down to the size of the screen you want at the end of the day. Theoretically speaking an LCD screen will last much longer than a plasma screen.

However, the plasma screen has a better look to it, but has a halflife of about 5-7 years before the plasma gas starts to fade (and your picture will fade with it).

The new flat panel televisions really aren’t designed to last very long though, as LCD screen tvs tend to have problems with their rendering engines.

CRT TV’s in my experience last MUCH MUCH longer.
