Why is it that those people who are almost exclusively metal fans are generally also fans of Pink Floyd?
This also applies to a few other bands, but Pink Floyd seems to be the most prominent example. Discuss.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas/anything else. I’m sure it’s been discussed to death without me, though.

For me, it started when there were hardly ANY metal acts out there, and I had to pick SOMETHING to listen to.
Besides, Pink Floyd are really great.
Because Pink Floyd was so amazing
Because Pink Floyd is amazingly awesome. :]
Cause Pink Floyd is just that awesome. A Band that spectacularly great tends to transcend all barriers.
*Edit*
R Chicas…………LMAOROTF !!!!!!!
People are pretty much exclusively metal fans tend not to be very open to other genres. There might be an air of “Metal is the best, other genres are okay but can never compare”.
However, Pink Floyd is forever being praised for their creativity, uniqueness, and general awesomefantasticness (not being sarcastic here, as I like the band myself!). So I see a lot of trve kvlt metalheads go “I listen to metal, but PF is great too!”
I hope that makes sense, lol.
well Led Zeppelin is kinda hard rock…and i am not much into it, cept for some stoner acts like Kyuss. also i like Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd is ok. but honestly avant garde metal over classic acts like Pink Floyd anyday…i know i am an ahole
edit: classic rock had its time and was fantastic at its own time…but times are changing and the present DOES have fantastic acts that never get the credit due, because of:
1. die hard classic rock fans who dont wanna open up to new stuff.
2. overwhelming amount of mainstream crap that is flowing from all the holes of modern media choking all the talent and creativity.
I don’t really see the connection between metal and PF – everyone I know will agree that they are an amazing band – and thats true, IMO they are one of the greatest contributions to music in XX century. To answer yuo question, I’d suspect that’s because people who are into metal usually know something about how music is structured and played – They can recognize a good line when they hear it, know what’s technically good or not, and can appreciate the effort the artis has put into creating the piece of music and playing it. Will a person who just listens to Basshunter or other shitty cheesy disco know this things? No. Of course I wouldnt put all metalheads in this category – I’ve met plenty of them who were narrow-minded when it came to music, and would argue to death that Manowar is the best band ever, but meh….
Ok, thats about it, i think.
Enjoy life
!
Well u kno how metal music sends out than I-dont-care attitude? same thing with pink! She is so fierce nd awesome nd strong nd inspirational jus like metal rock! and i am a fan of metal music too nd i love her attitude! she rocks!
^^
Pink..Floyd!
I enjoy Progressive Rock, hence I enjoy their music. I also often want to clear my head and listen to something calm and enjoyable, Pink Floyd exactly fits for it. I find it hard not to appreciate and enjoy such talent.
Because Metal is generally complex and layered music, as is Floyd.
If one takes the time to look beneath the “Brutality” of most Metal it’s actually amazingly technical, and difficult to do well.
(obviously that is not true of a lot fo Mall Metal and some of the COre Music, though there are also comlex examples of each), but it usually is.
Most MetalHeads I know are actually fans of a LOT of classic rock, just usually not the more Pop Mainstream bands. And Pink Floyd is one of te most complex and Progressive abnds in ANY Genre.
well, I’m not. I actually hate them.
The album “Dark Side of the Moon” is like the most overrated album I’ve ever listened to.
And there’s better out there.
Christmas was wonderful. I hope yours was, too.
For me (speaking as a metal fan), I like heavy music. I don’t know how to describe my definition of heavy music, but it’s not limited to chunky guitars and double bass. It’s more to do with the feeling I get from a particular group, song or part of a song. Pink Floyd has a lot of stuff that affects me that way.
Take Fearless off of Meddle, as an example. Its a fairly mellow song. When I listen to it, I feel like there’s a lot of emotion behind the music, especially the guitars. To me, that’s heavy, and might appeal to the primal metal fan in me.
Well, i couldnt be sure. I’m a huge fan of metal, although not exclusively. I also love Pink Floyd very muchly
So I’m afraid i couldn’t be sure how this applies to those who are exclusivley metal fans…!
Interesting point though…
Pink Floyd is one of the best bands of all time and their sound is unique for its time and still is today. If you don’t like them, deal with it. People will still be talking about them 30 years from now.
pink floyd has something no one else has ever managed what i cant quite put my finger on but they were special
i also like stevie ray vaughn
mark knofler (dire straits)
and CCR
mmm
I agree with the King Crimson album dude. But to add to that, Pink Floyd is metal. If they did not come first, then we would be calling them alternative metal.
A comparison would be Lou Reed was punk before their was punk. A sense of jazz comes through both originals. Metal and Punk progressed into more drum, harsher vocals, and faster beat.
I’m not sure but if it’s any consolation this really applies to me, I never really thought of it until now.
I listen to metalcore/hardcore/metal as my main genre(s) but I was always big on Pink Floyd and Led Zep…weird…
